The Effects of Psychotherapy Program for Sex Offenders with Intellectual Disabilities

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of psychotherapy program for sex offenders with intellectual disabilities on psychological factors related with sexual crime. For this purpose, 9 sex offenders with intellectual disabilities were participated in, and totally 18 sessions were conducted.
The results of analyzed data were as follows: First, rape myth of sex offenders with intellectual disabilities were positively changed. Second, victim sympathy of sex offenders with intellectual disabilities were positively changed. Third, cognitive distortion of sex offenders with intellectual disabilities were positively changed. Forth, sexual attitude and knowledge of sex offenders with intellectual disabilities were positively changed.
Thus, it could be assumed that psychotherapy program which used in study have positive effects on psychological factors for sex offenders with intellectual disabilities.
